Barn Find to Biltwell 100: The Resurrection of a 1974 CT70

Barn Find to Biltwell 100: The Resurrection of a 1974 CT70

What started as a rusted-out relic tucked away in a barn is now a fully reborn desert ripper that just proved itself at the 2025 Biltwell 100. Built off a 1974 Honda CT70 frame, this project was equal parts restoration and reimagination — and it’s got both the scars and the finish line to show for it.

Builder Nate Boyd led the charge on this transformation, combining fabrication, performance upgrades, and an eye for gritty detail to bring the CT70 back to life.

After pulling this CT70 from the weeds, the goal was to preserve what could be salvaged and breathe new life into the rest. The frame is now titled and tagged for street use in New Mexico, but make no mistake — this thing was built to get rowdy in the dirt.

Most of the build came from our shop, starting with our CT70 Full Suspension Bundle. We paired the V2 Front End Kit in Black & Gold with 330-340mm Gas-Filled Shocks and a Standard Length Aluminum Swingarm to give it modern capability while respecting its vintage roots. A Lifan 125 Engine with a Nibbi PE24FL driving a RK Racing Chain and 33T 4 Prong Cush Drive Rear Sprocket gives it the punch to keep up with today’s trail bikes, while Bart Moto Co Inset Bar Clamps and BMX bars dial in the control.

Tires are everything on a desert course, and the Duro HF910 tires on stock rims didn’t disappoint. The bike also features a Bart Moto Co Rear Drum Brake Pedal, and a K0 Style Complete Seat finishing off a setup that’s both functional and clean.

When it came time to race, Nate's brother, Sam Boyd, entered the resto-mod CT70 in the Biltwell 100—a challenging 25-mile desert course that includes deep sand, whoops, rocks, hill climbs, tunnels, and fire roads. This terrain tests a bike's suspension, power delivery, and overall durability. The result? He finished 6th overall in the Misfit class, and more importantly, the bike held up flawlessly.
